Can you buy health insurance with pre-existing conditions?

A gentleman once came to us with a worried face.

He said, “I have diabetes and blood pressure. Everyone tells me no insurance company will touch my case. Is that true?”

This is one of the most common fears people have when it comes to health insurance.

The truth is: yes, you can still get covered even if you have pre-existing conditions.

But here’s how it really works:

If your condition is mild to moderate (like controlled diabetes, hypertension, thyroid), most insurers will issue the policy, often with a waiting period before they cover those illnesses.

In some cases, the insurer may issue the policy but with a loaded premium (slightly higher cost than normal).

Only in severe or very critical cases do insurers decline the proposal and refund the premium.

What really matters is disclosure. Many people are tempted to hide their medical history thinking it will help them get the policy. In reality, it only backfires when a claim is filed.

So the golden rule is: be transparent.

The earlier you buy insurance, the better your chances of getting lifelong coverage at an affordable cost.

Health conditions are common today - they shouldn’t stop you from securing protection for your family.
